Biography
Ann Schroeder makes
fine art quilts that
spring from her love for
Cape Breton
landscapes, weather,
and music.
She begins by dyeing,
painting, and printing
fabric and then
improvises her designs,
paying attention to
colour and rhythm. She
tries to make her work
complex enough to
interest viewers more
than once and
ambiguous enough to
be open to
interpretation.
One of Ann’s quilts was
purchased by the Nova
Scotia Art Bank in
2009. Her work has
been displayed in the
Mary Black Gallery and
the Anna Leonowens
Gallery, both in Halifax,
and featured in Art
Quilts: A Celebration
and Fiberarts Design
Book Six, both
published by Lark
Books.
Ann’s Fabric Dyeing by
the Sea workshops in
Mabou Harbour have
been enjoyed by more
than 100 people.
In her spare time Ann
weeds her vegetable
garden, goes to local
concerts, walks in the
hills, and takes piano
lessons.
